In November, Tiffany Cardwell, Nicole Davies, and a number of other Kentucky SHRM members attended the 2013 SHRM Leadership Conference in our nation’s capital. Below Tiffany and Nicole reflect on their experiences at the conference.
Tiffany Cardwell: Engage, Inspire, and Lead were the themes of the 2013 SHRM Leadership Conference. These three words alone truly encompassed my experiences this past November since as a first-time attendee, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. However, SHRM did not disappoint and proved once again that they are a top-notch organization, providing their Volunteer Leaders with top-notch programming.
For those of you who have never attended the SHRM Leadership Conference, I would highly recommend placing it on your Calendar for 2014. The opportunity to engage with other dedicated SHRM Volunteers was priceless and our KYSHRM team was also able to spend time together to exchange ideas as well as enjoy all that the Conference had to offer.
Nicole Davies: As a returning attendee, each year the conference exceeds the last, yet again allowing volunteer leaders an opportunity to hone their management skills, share ideas with other similarly-sized chapters around the country, and plan for another successful year for the Chapter and State Council. Like Tiffany, I value the SHRM Leadership Conference highly and embrace it as one of the best professional development opportunities available for volunteer leaders.
Tiffany Cardwell: “There was so much packed into the Conference. However, I would say that the highlight of the trip for me was our Capitol Hill Visits. Although these visits are voluntary, I would highly recommend signing up to educate yourself about the critical HR issues that SHRM continues to advocate for the ever growing Human Resources field. Prior to arriving, we were provided an Informational Webinar from SHRM’s Government Relations and Legislative Affairs team. I found that the Advocacy Training and Legislative Briefing that was provided early morning on our first day was excellent foundation for our Agenda for the day.”
