October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month #NDEAM. The purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities.

Motorcyle gangs look to the leader of the pack as the calm, cool, collected one in charge. He is the roughest, toughest guy who knows the direction that the gang needs to go and is ready to lead them there. While that may all be true, what the rest of the gang doesn’t always see is that, as you are driving down the road behind him, he’s the first one to catch all the bugs in his teeth. Much like being the innovation leader in your industry – exploring new ideas or trying out new technologies can leave you with a bad taste in your mouth and plenty of bugs to deal with.

KYSHRM Book Nook Raises over $3600 for SHRM Foundation!

Jeff Nally and Cathy Fyock led the charge to raise $3500 for the Foundation at a new Book Nook at this year's conference. Staffed by volunteers featuring books donated from SHRM, the book store offered great books at discount prices. Speaker books were also featured, along with the four anthologies authored by many of KYSHRM's members.

KY SHRM: State Workforce Readiness Initiative

Have you registered your employer for Kentucky Unbridled Careers? What is Kentucky Unbridled Careers? Kentucky Unbridled Careers was formed to help bridge the gap between high school students and career pathways. The platform for KY Unbridled Careers is the ccInspire program and the Individual Learning Plan, which are currently utilized throughout Kentucky high schools.

While many are familiar with the word “advocacy,” they are not necessarily acquainted with its meaning. To be an advocate means that you are an active supporter of a cause, proposal or principle. Last month, I was given the unique opportunity to participate and represent Kentucky at the National Society for Human Resource Management’s Annual Conference Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C., and advocate for all of the important issues and interests this great organization supports.
